professional las vegas photographer
Working CES last year here in Las Vegas for Samsung , an attendee came up to me commenting on my Camera andcase full of equipment and said “These new Cell phones must be killing your business”,
I was a little taken a-back by this remark thinking people , professional people couldn't be so ignorant to think that a cell phone can reproduce the quality of my cameras and all the equipment that goes on a shoot with me, let alone my experience. Well if all goes well and there are no problems ,and your subject is lit correctly and the light source is comparable to the presetting on your Phone, then yes probably.

To produce good images from conventions and meetings is not a no – brainer, far from it, you and your Art director need images that make your meetings look dynamic and well attended, even if that in reality is not the case, it can be done!

You need images that are color correct,not orange or blue, or dark and fuzzy, meeting rooms are not built for photography, but again, it can be done!
Your equipment fails , maybe your battery dies, your camera gets knocked and broken , miles from home what you going to do now ?
Hiring a good Convention / Eventphotographer / Company is an important decision that will reflect on you in the end, going cheap will cost you in many ways later and for at least a year of regret.
I'm not saying go for the most expensive but cutting corners is just asking for trouble, there are a few good dedicated Companies to choose from and here are points you must take in to consideration:
Does your photographer or photographer Co, have experience in this particular field conventions are not weddings, Dedicated professionals. (Check out website)
Is there equipment professional grade ? ( Glass lenses , professional flashes, Camera bodies)
Will your photographer carry a second set of gear?
Can they supply a back up photographer in an emergency?
I could go on but you should get the general idea here ,not all photographers are equal, my company we do not allow smoking, drinking or 'Swag' collecting ,clothing is business casual, for both men and women and tardiness is not tolerated, your paying good money for a service and you should get every thing promised.

After the Shoot morequestions to ask::
Are you being charged for Edit and burn of your discs?
Copy right , are your images released to you , and for what , in house , global advertising, web publication ?
How long will it take to get images ?
And what you should expect are images that are color correct, pictures from events with the faces of the attendees not the back of their heads, good well framed photographes that show excitement and concentration of the class, and good candid shots of your speakers, willing or not a good photographer should beable to get at least one shot of your speaker, and remember you canuse 'elements' of photographes so maybe the over all shot is notbrilliant, but slice it up ,or crop it and it takes on a life ofit's own.
I hope I have given you a little something to think about, and value the job we do, after all we'renot the end result in all cases, but with out a good eye and experience the convention excitement might never be shared with next years first time attendees.
